LGS Dilution Calculator

What is LGS Dilution?

To control Low Gravity Solids in a mud system you have a few options. You can use a centrifuge to remove the solids, or you can dilute the mud with fresh mud, water, or base fluid. This calculator is used to determine how much volume you need to add to your mud system to dilute the Low Gravity Solids to a desired percentage.

Volume to dilute:

Formula:

The volume to dilute is calculated using the formula:

Volume to dilute = (Initial Volume * (Percent LGS - Desired LGS)) / Desired LGS

Variables:

  • Initial Volume: The initial volume of the mud system (bbl)
  • Percent LGS: The initial percentage of Low Gravity Solids (%)
  • Desired LGS: The desired percentage of Low Gravity Solids (%)
